The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced a special stray vacancy round for newly eligible candidates, following the reduction of the National Eligibility Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET PG) cut-off for 2024. According to the official schedule, registration for the MCC NEET PG counselling 2024 will begin on March 6, 2025. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official website, mcc.nic.in.
In addition to the counselling schedule, the MCC has outlined the eligibility criteria for participation in this special round.
Due to vacant seats remaining unfilled after the completion of the previous stray vacancy round—primarily caused by candidates not joining or reporting—the competent authority has decided to lower the NEET PG cut-off percentile for 2024 to the 5th percentile and conduct this additional round of counselling.
NEET PG Counselling 2024: Eligibility for special stray vacancy round
Candidates who have not been allotted or have not joined any seat in the previous rounds of NEET PG counselling 2024, including All India Quota (AIQ), state quota, or deemed university admissions, are eligible to participate.
Candidates must have secured a percentile score of 5% or above across all categories.
Candidates who have already been allotted and joined a seat through AIQ, state counselling, or a deemed university are not eligible for this round.
Candidates who were allotted seats in AIQ Round 3 or the earlier stray vacancy round by MCC but did not join are also ineligible.
Important instructions for candidates
Candidates must submit fresh choices for the special stray vacancy round. The MCC has issued the following guidelines for participation:
All AIQ-registered candidates, regardless of category, must pay a refundable security deposit of ₹50,000 to participate in the special stray vacancy round for government seats.
Candidates opting for deemed university seats must pay a refundable security deposit of ₹3,00,000.
Candidates who are allotted a seat in this round but fail to join will forfeit their security deposit and will be ineligible to appear for the NEET PG exam next year.
Those allotted seats must report to the designated institute with their original documents and complete the admission process within the stipulated timeframe specified in the schedule.
The list of candidates allotted seats in the AIQ special stray vacancy round will be shared with state counselling authorities, and such candidates will be barred from participating in the state counselling’s special stray vacancy round.
Candidates participating in the special stray vacancy round must submit an undertaking regarding seat allotment at the time of choice filling on the MCC portal.
Candidates are advised to stay updated with official MCC notifications to ensure they meet all necessary requirements for the special stray vacancy round.
