IGNOU Grants Over 3 Lakh Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates at 38th Convocation

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) marked a historic moment on March 5, 2025, as it hosted its 38th Convocation at the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre, IGNOU Maidan Garhi Campus. The event witnessed the conferment of over 3 lakh degrees, diplomas, and certificates to students across various programmes, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to making higher education accessible to all.

Leaders Emphasise the Future of Education

The convocation was graced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as the Chief Guest, who virtually addressed the gathering. In his speech, he urged students to look beyond degrees and focus on skilling, innovation, employment, and entrepreneurship. Pradhan said in the virtual conference as reported by TNN, “I urge everyone at Ignou to prioritise digital learning and make education even more accessible to the remotest corners of our nation. Education must go beyond degrees and focus on the skills that drive innovation, employment, and entrepreneurship. With the rise of artificial intelligence, automation, and industry 4.0, continuous soft skilling and lifelong learning will be the key in future.”

Recognising Excellence and Achievements

Among the distinguished guests was Prof. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director of IIM Tiruchirappalli, who lauded IGNOU’s efforts in breaking barriers and making education accessible to all. Meanwhile, at the IGNOU regional centre in Pune, the convocation was held at the Balewadi premises, where Vice-Chancellor Dr. P. A. Inamdar University, M. D. Lawrence, served as the Guest of Honour. A highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of the University Gold Medal to Ambule Hetram, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) student from the January 2022-2024 session, for his outstanding academic performance.

Bridging the Gap: The Digital and AI Revolution

The event also underscored the growing significance of digital education in shaping the future of learning. Pradhan highlighted the need for continuous upskilling in the face of advancements in artificial intelligence, automation, and Industry 4.0.
